Austrian Crystals and Rhinestones for Craft Projects

By: Gen Wright

Crystals and rhinestones are semi-precious stones which look almost like diamonds. They come in a large variety of shapes, colors and sizes, and are usually used as jewelry or adornment pieces. The colors are completely natural, and it is very easy to tell the colors of the stones from the names. Each separate color is given its own specific name. For instance, Emerald means green, Amethyst means purple, ruby or siam means red, etc.

Colors are vital for any crystal projects. That is because for any works of art, various colors will convey varied meanings. As artists usually use craft pieces as a way to express themselves, it is vital to have stones of different colors in order to allow artists to express their full desires

In addition, crystals and rhinestones can be obtaines in a large variety of sizes. Sizes are measured in "ss", which means "stone size". They range from a value of 5 to 48. The largest stone may have a diameter that can be up to 12mm. The smallest stone may have a diameter that is less than 2mm.

By using varied sizes and shapes artists are allowed to express whatever is visualized in their minds. As an example, ss5 stones can be used in a craft project to recreate the flag of your own country. rhinestones dcan be used to represent other designs including planets, treasures, etc.

One unique feature about crystals and rhinestones is their large amount of reflective facets. When you try to shine a light on a stone, you will see the light being refracted in many different directions. This effect can be emphasized by artists in a craft project. For sure, the stones will greatly enhance the overall appearance of the project, and make it an attention grabber.

In addition to being beautiful on the outside these stones are highly suitable for craft projects as many of them come with adhesive glue on their flat surface This makes them ideal for attaching to another surface.

Most commonly these particular stones are known as hot fix crystals or rhinestones. This describes the adhering process very well. You will need some heat to attach the stones to your craft project Here is how it works.

Glue is already applied on the bottom of hot fix crystals. When heat is applied to the stone, the glue softens. Now the user can attach the stone to another surface. The heat source is then removed, and the stone is allowed to cool off. The glue hardened as the cooling starts, and after just a few short seconds, the stone is attached to the surface.

It is important to know that a special tool will be required to assist with the fixing process. You can use this process to fix stones to clothing, craft projects, and any other surface that you would like to decorate.

When you start work on your next project consider buying some Austrian crystals or rhinestones. When you buy in bulk, the prices are highly affordable.
