Stay Positive during a time of Change

By: Bruce Mills

Change can be hard on anyone at times. Places we could face change challenges are at home, work, hobbies and more. If you have kids, they are constantly changing as they get older, how well do you handle their changes? A job loss can be a big change to handle, a lot of people are facing this change currently. At work your company probably constantly changing to keep competitive, how well do you handle the changes when they affect you? Your hobbies could have changes also, for instance if you are a bowler, if you didn't change with technology then chances are you are not scoring as well as others. Same goes with golf, if you haven't changed to the new golf clubs chances are your friends are hitting further than you are. How do you handle change?

Be ready for change.
The ability to handle change is a key survival skill of all resilient people. Just as the seasons change, our lives change constantly, too.

ry to anticipate change and look ahead to see what's coming. That way you'll be prepared for the next change when it happens.

Make a conscious effort to stay flexible. Try these "flexibility" exercises:

- Take a different route to work, home, or the store. If your spouse or partner is driving and takes a different route than you'd take, enjoy the ride and don't complain.

- Turn off the TV. Watching television puts your brain in "neutral." For your brain to stay flexible, it needs to keep stretching and growing.

- When you catch yourself saying "no' to an invitation, say "yes" instead.

- Learn a new sport or game.

Realize that the only real way to change is to do something more than once. For example, if you want to change your habits and get more exercise, you have to keep at it week after week until this change becomes part of your routine.

How do you accept change
I like the above examples to get ready for change. I feel when going through change we need to believe that God will take care of it the ways he feels it is best. If you look at all the changes you have been through in your life time and see how it helped you grow and be a better person. Even though at times it is easy to feel this is the worst thing ever. Just keep the faith and believe that things will work out, be patient. Let me know how you handle change. Have a great day.
